Burlesque Inspiration with the Ewa Michalak S Gazeta

A couple of years ago, Ewa Michalak released a particular style which received an unbelievable amount of attention: the CHP Gazeta. This burlesque-inspired, newspaper print piece sold out incredibly quickly, and it’s still highly coveted throughout the lingerie community today. While the CHP has a smaller size range than some of Ewa’s other pieces, Ewa Michalak offers the option for many of her styles to be custom-made in another cut for a small fee. I was lucky enough to get my hands on an S Gazeta, which uses the same fabrics and detailing, but in a construction specifically designed for larger breasts.

With how sought-after this style is, I wasn’t able to get this bra in my preferred size of 70K (32K), so this is a 60L (28L). I’m going to say straight off the bat that this is (obviously) far too small in the back for me, and I wear this with an extender. However, aside from strap placement at the back, Ewa Michalak makes no other changes to construction between sister sizes, so when worn with an extender, I find the fit is more or less the same as in my other 70K S bras. I did also try out a 65KK (30KK), but oddly it didn’t fit quite as well (running a little small in the cups), so I decided to stick with the 60L. So, onto the actual review!

If you weren’t lucky enough to get your hands on this bra when it came out, I’m sure you will be kicking yourself, because this style is just gorgeous. It features a striking newspaper print base, contrasted with black lace trims and satin piping. The straps connect to the cups with a little “V” of cord, which is a very small yet very striking change. The gore features a large magenta bow, and the band is appliquéd with little magenta hearts.

I have previously reviewed the S cut in a 65JJ, and I found the 70K to have a slightly different construction. I believe this change in construction occurs in all cup sizes larger than a 65JJ (so 65K+ and all sister sizes). In these sizes, the S is made with three vertical panels (rather than two), and one horizontal panel across the top. While I found the 65JJ had a very clear, pointed apex, I find that this construction gives a very round shape, with a much more subtle (yet still beautifully uplifted) apex.

I love the amount of attention to detail which has gone into this bra. Honestly, I feel like I don’t even need to start explaining why I love this style so much – just look at it!!! The newspaper fabric is gorgeous and eye-catching in itself, featuring almost collage-esque layers of text, finished with a subtle, textured polka-dot. On top of that, it features so many fun little details, and I think the oversized bows, little hearts and black ruffles give a very playful, burlesque vibe.

Okay, okay, I should stop gushing about the appearance and start talking about the fit and construction of this bra. Fit-wise, I find the cups of this bra to be spot on. I find Ewa Michalak’s padded bras usually run a little small in the cups and firm in the band, so with my usual UK bra size of 30K (30JJ in Panache), I find a 70K (32K) to be a really great size for me in the S cut. In this size of 70L (28L), I find the band to run firm (as expected), stretching to just under 28 inches without an extender.

Ewa Michalak S Gazeta 60L - Close-up, Side Profile

As I have come to expect from Ewa Michalak, the cups of this bra are beautifully narrow and deep, with the wires following my breast root perfectly. This bra is average height at the gore and sides – I find the sides low enough not to irritate my armpit, but high enough to have no issues with support or escaping breast tissue. The gore is narrow, which I find perfect for my close-set breasts, and I find this bra to be very supportive and well-made. One thing I would keep in mind is that this bra has a fair amount of vertical volume, so it may not be the best choice for those with very short roots. For those who have average to tall roots, however, I think Ewa Michalak’s bras are definitely worth trying out.

The cups are sturdy and well structured. While some of Ewa Michalak’s bras use very flexible cup materials, the Gazeta is one of the stiffer, foam-lined options. I personally prefer this, as I seem to get much more shape and support from these materials, and I don’t notice any difference in comfort due to this. One thing that I think does affect the comfort is the lace under the band, which I find can be a little itchy, especially with my rounded tummy.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get my hands on the briefs for this bra, so I’m wearing the bra here with some of my trusty ruffled knickers – not as cute as the actual coordinating briefs, but I think they match the feel of the bra quite nicely! One thing I didn’t get in photographs was the back of this bra (doh). The back is plain black, with the band fastening with 3 rows of hooks and eyes. There are four columns of eyes to allow a longer lifespan and a greater range of fit, and the same little hearts are appliquéd on each side of the fastening. The straps are fully adjustable (only stopped by the appliqué/cord detailing at the very front of the straps), giving a good range of length for different body/breast types.

I’m modelling the bra in these pictures with my Lovehoney Flaunt Me robe, a piece I was sent a few weeks ago. The robe is made with a soft, semi-sheer black lace, with scalloped trims on the sleeves and arms, and a light ruffle trim around the bottom. The robe features 3/4-length sleeves, two internal waist ties to keep it fastened, and a longer black satin sash to accentuate your waist. It has quite a short length, skimming just below my bottom. I personally really like this length, and I think the combination of the length and the semi-sheer lace is very playful and mysterious.

As a fairly low-cost, bedroom item, this is available in two size options: ‘one size’ (fits approx 6-16) and ‘plus size’ (fits approx 16-22). With the waist tie and the gently stretchy fabric, I think it could easily fit this range of sizes, and I find the standard one size to fit me fine. The lace is lovely and soft, and I think this robe will work beautifully as either a playful bedroom piece or a light cover-up around the house.

Overall I do love both of these pieces! If you’re looking for a delicate, sexy robe at a low price point, I think this one is a great choice, and don’t even get me going on the bra again! I think the S bra is a very solid bra for larger cups, and I’ll be sharing a few more reviews of my favourite S styles soon.

    • I’m sorry! I was in two minds about posting this review, as I know it’s hard to get your hands on. I figured it should still be useful as the S cut is more or less the same regardless of colourway, but I still feel a little bad for anyone who didn’t get their hands on it!

      • I really hope Ewa brings back some of her old designs like the Charlie, the Prohibicja, and the Gazeta. All three of these colorways are completely different than anything I’ve ever seen in the full bust lingerie world.

        • I loooooved the Charlie! I never got my hands on that one – that was back before the S was introduced, and the PL and I just don’t get along. Still, maybe someday!

      • It’s not available from Ewa Michalak anymore, however, you might be able to find it on reselling sites such as eBay, Bratabase or facebook bra selling groups :)

  1. I love the robe and I love the bra. I’m tempted to try ewa michalak..but I have no idea what my size would be. I’m still not sure what my size is actuall XD. theoretically it should be 28JJ but I haven’t fitted any 28JJ that works…but that is a really gorgeous bra. Thanks for the review!
