Feeling Tropical in Maison Lejaby Theodora

Earlier in the year I was contacted by Maison Lejaby about reviewing one of their pieces, and though I wasn’t familiar with the brand, I quickly had a look around their website and gladly accepted! Maison Lejaby is a French brand that has been around since the 1930’s, offering some absolutely divine pieces! They asked me which pieces I liked the look of and I found it really hard to choose. I eventually picked out the Theodora, Illusion, and Hanae styles, and I was thrilled when I received not one, not two, but three different sets! The first set that I received was the Theodora Unpadded Balconette Bra in Tropical with the regular matching briefs. I’m not usually a fan of orange-anything really, but this is an exception – I think this set is absolutely stunning!

I received the set in sizes 80F (30F) and Size 2 (Small) briefs. They use French sizing, so it took me a while to figure out which size I should go for, but I figured it out eventually! Here are my observations on the sizing:

  • The band size progression is 80, 85, 90, 95 etc, which roughly corresponds to 30, 32, 34, 36 etc. They offer band sizes 80-105 (30-40).
  • The cup progression is C, D, DD, E, F, G, H. They offer cup sizes C-G, but their cups run generously.
  • The separates are available in sizes 1-6, which corresponds to XS-XXL. There is a size chart available to check your waist/hip measurements.
  • With my usual UK size of 28FF/G, a straight conversion would’ve given me a size of 75G/H. Since they don’t go down to 75 (28) bands, my sister size of 30F/FF gives me an 80F/G.
  • As I had heard that their cups were on the generous side, I decided to go for the smaller cup size of 80F (30F).

Whew! Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get onto the actual review 😉

The bra itself is floral lace in a vibrant tropical orange shade. On the gore sits a lovely big netted bow and just beneath that – some beautiful guipure detailing. The half-adjustable straps also have the same guipure lace detailing on the front of each strap, adding extra femininity and more of a luxurious vibe, while the underside remains fairly smooth and comfortable. The floral lace covers the majority of the cups, except for the very bottom of the cups where instead there is sheer mesh fabric, giving a cheeky little peek of flesh! The band is made of the same mesh material, and where the left strap meets the band at the back, there is some silver hardware with their logo and brand name on.

The matching briefs are equally as stunning as the bra, and the size 2 (Small) sits comfortably on my 37 inch hips. The briefs are made from breathable opaque fabric which feels very soft and comfortable against the skin, they also have sheer lace panels on the sides that look extra feminine, and a little more of the guipure on the centre front of the briefs. I personally find the style to be very cute, feminine, and flattering.

When checking the measurements, the band measures 24.3 inches laid flat and 30.7 inches when stretched, so I find the band is fairly true-to-size. In this size, the Theodora fastens with two rows of hooks and eyes, with four columns of eyes to adjust the fit, and I find the band to be a relatively okay fit on me. Though, as always, if a 75 (28) band were to be available I would have liked to try one out (as I mentioned before I usually wear a 28 band).

I think the cups of the Theodora run slightly generously, it feels like a wonderful fit on me and they give quite a nice naturally uplifted shape. The cups do have a little bit of stretch in them, so I would say that this bra runs between half and a full cup generously compared to UK bras. If you’re between sizes I think it would be best to try out the smaller cup-size to try and find the best fit!

The width and depth of the cups seem quite average, and the gore height is fairly low. This bra seems quite supportive and goes nicely under clothes so I can wear it as a (very luxurious) every day bra, as well as if I want to feel pretty and feminine!

Personally I am absolutely delighted to have this set in my collection – it is so beautiful! Despite how gorgeous this set it is it’s still extremely soft, breathable, and comfortable against the skin, so it would be great for the bedroom or every day wear! The Tropical orange colour is an older colourway now, but the Theodora is also available in Black, which I think is really gorgeous! If you can still manage to get your hands on this set I would definitely recommend it.
